NETFLIX NEW RELEASES: JULY 11, 2006

BASIC INSTINCT 2
Sharon Stone reprises her star-making role as seductive novelist Catherine Tramell in a sequel that begins where the ice pick left off. Charged with the murder of her fiancé, Catherine faces questioning from Scotland Yard-appointed psychiatrist Michael Glass (David Morrissey), who has the training to withstand her mind games, but may not possess the willpower. Charlotte Rampling and David Thewlis provide able support.

TRISTRAM SHANDY: A COCK AND BULL STORY
This postmodern mockumentary chronicles a valiant yet hapless attempt to make a film adaptation of the autobiographical The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentlemen, a complex 18th century tale by English writer Laurence Sterne. Alternating scenes from the novel with escapades from the movie set, director Michael Winterbottom craftily blends fiction and reality, past and present, serving up a deliciously twisted ode to filmmaking.

ON A CLEAR DAY
When Frank (Peter Mullan) loses his job at the docks, he quickly realizes that, at age 55, he’s too old to start a new career but too young to simply stop working. Despondent about his life and past mistakes, he decides to take on the ultimate challenge -- to swim the English Channel. With the support of friends and family, he thinks he can rise to the occasion and bear the physical pain, but is he ready to come to terms with his emotional pain?

WEEDS: SEASON 1
Living the high life as a suburban mom turned pot dealer, Nancy Botwin (Golden Globe winner Mary-Louise Parker) manages motherhood and marijuana on a daily basis. Desperate times call for desperate dealings once Nancy is struck with the need to provide for her family in this hilarious and poignant tale of unique entrepreneurial opportunities. The Season 1 DVD from the Showtime hit series features cast commentary and smokin' bonus material.

PROTOCOLS OF ZION
Filmmaker Marc Levin sets out to understand and challenge those who believe the Jews were responsible for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that brought down the World Trade Center. This engrossing documentary explores the rapid growth of anti-Semitism since that tragic date and refutes the notion that a nefarious Jewish cabal orchestrated the attacks. Crisp, incisive and often humorous, this film delves into the dynamics of zealotry and hate.

30 DAYS: SEASON 1
Morgan Spurlock (of Supersize Me fame) hosts this one-hour documentary film series that places subjects for a month in situations they’re unlikely to seek out on their own. By subjecting themselves to such circumstances, participants help shed light on social issues plaguing America today, such as the rift created by religious differences between Muslims and Christians in America, the incarcerated and the lawyers who put them in prison, and more.

GRILLED
Good salesmen can move any merchandise -- theoretically, at least. But what if the product is an ungodly amount of frozen beef? Leave it to door-to-door hucksters Maurice (Ray Romano) and Dave (Kevin James) to get the job done, even if they have to pull every trick in the book to make quota; if they fail, they could end up as dead meat. Sofia Vergara, Kim Coates, Caroline Aaron and Donzaleigh Abernathy costar in this sizzling comedy.

DENNIS MILLER: ALL IN
Sardonic comedian Dennis Miller -- a man whose known for his trademark rants -- takes the Las Vegas stage in a hilarious stand-up special filmed especially for HBO audiences. Sounding off on a sampling of current events whose controversy makes him extra irritable, Miller rails against topics like comb-overs, the environment, gay marriage, immigration and Hilary Clintons chances of winning the highest office in 2008.

LITTLE BOY BLUE
Even though Jimmy West (Ryan Phillippe) is finally on the brink of leaving home and going to college, part of him feels obligated to stay behind and care for his mother (Nastassja Kinski) and two younger brothers. After all, if he leaves, they’ll be stuck living in the stagnant Texas panhandle with Jimmy’s hot-tempered father, Ray (John Savage), a Vietnam War veteran whose pent-up anger holds them all hostage.

SHOGUN ASSASSIN
An adaptation of two films from the Japanese Lone Wolf and Cub series, Shogun Assassin follows the lone samurai and his son on a trail of bloodthirsty revenge. After faithfully serving hisshogun, Lone Wolf (Tomisaburo Wakayama) is betrayed when the shogun has his wife killed. Boiling with the blood of vengeance, the samurai and his young son have to fend for themselves as they seek out the shogun and come face to face with the Masters of Death.

PINK FLOYD: PULSE
Pink Floyd outshines their own reputation for over-the-top special effects and intense lighting in this 1994 performance recorded live at London’s Earls Court. Tracks include "Shine on You Crazy Diamond," "Learning to Fly," "High Hopes," "Coming Back to Life," "Another Brick in the Wall (Part Two)," "Money," "Wish You Were Here," "Comfortably Numb," "The Great Gig in the Sky," "Take It Back" and "One of These Days."

BILL MAHER: NEW RULES
Comedian Bill Maher leaves no target unturned in this hilarious collection of bits from his HBO series "Real Time with Bill Maher." Stamping his trademark wit on the inherent comedy of actual events, Maher attacks the things that drive him crazy and isn’t shy about sharing his feelings. Bonus features include a live round of Maher’s signature on-camera "editorials," in which he sounds off on politics, pop culture and everything in between.

RENO 911: SEASON 3
The bungling deputies of Reno, Nev., are back on duty for a third season of shenanigans and comic misadventures as they try (but fail) to protect the community. In the opener, the squad -- including their intrepid leader, Lt. Jim Dangle (Thomas Lennon) -- finds themselves behind bars, charged with killing the Milkshake Man. This collection includes 13 uproarious installments, along with deleted and extended scenes.

THE BUTCHER
A road trip to Las Vegas goes horribly wrong for a group of rowdy collegians in this shocking tale of terror starring Myiea Coy, April Gilbert, Ashley Rebecca Hawkins and Bill Jacobson. After a terrible car accident in the middle of nowhere leaves one of the students dead, the rest go in search of help. But when they finally come upon an isolated farmhouse, it turns out to be the home of a homicidal psychopath.

PIRATES
Passion ignites aboard a pirate ship known as the Sea Stallion in this titillating high-seas adventure. Taking its cues from the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean, the plot follows one crew’s journey into perilous and haunted waters, where CGI skeletons and the brutish Capt. Victor Stagnetti inhabit a phantom ship. Adapted from one of the most lavish adult films ever produced, this tamer, R-rated version stars a host of sexy swashbucklers.

DEAD WAVES
A desperate TV producer goes to great lengths to restore the ratings of his once popular TV show about exorcisms. His prospects begin to look up when he enlists the cooperation of the Nagao family, who believe their daughter is possessed. Unfortunately, things take a lethal turn and the bodies start piling up when the energies from evil spirits and television waves intermingle and unleash deadly forces.

AFTER SUNDOWN
The exhumation of a century-old corpse accidentally reawakens a vampire straight out of the Old West in this blood-spattered horror flick set in a windswept Texas hamlet. Before you can say "undead," the vengeful creature (played by J. Christopher) and his legion of flesh-craving zombie slaves unleash holy hell on the town’s denizens. Susana Gibb, Jake Billingsley, Reece Rios and Natalie Jones head the cast.

ER: SEASON 5
His presence as attending physician somehow making the emergency room a more pleasant place to be, George Clooney finally takes his leave of the ER in Season 5 of the popular medical drama. These episodes also find a plucky med student (Kellie Martin) joining the staff and befriending Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle); Dr. Green (Anthony Edwards) struggling to keep his family together; and Dr. Corday (Alex Kingston) starting over as an intern.

GRAND PRIX
John Frankenheimer's spectacular auto-racing epic won Oscars for editing, sound and sound effects. When American Grand Prix driver Pete Aron (James Garner) is fired after crashing in Monaco and injuring his British teammate, Scott Stoddard (Brian Bedford), he starts driving for a Japanese team. While Stoddard struggles to recover, Aron becomes involved with Stoddard’s estranged wife, Pat (Jessica Walter). Yves Montand and Eva Marie Saint co-star.

SIMON
Dutch director Eddy Terstall also penned the screenplay for this nuance drama, following the friendship of two men -- one gay and one straight -- over the course of 14 years. When he bumps into his old pal Simon (Cees Geel) after more than a decade of estrangement, Camiel (Marcel Hensema) finds it surprisingly easy to pick up where they left off. But with both of their lives greatly changed, their friendship takes on a whole new meaning.

UFC: ULTIMATE FIGHTIING CHAMPIONSHIP BEST OF 2005
Experience unsurpassed action in this three-hour compilation of Ultimate Fighting Championship matches from 2005. Evan Tanner takes on David Terrel, and Chuck Liddell battles Randy Couture. More bone-crunching bouts include Liddell vs. Horn, Drew Fickett vs. Josh Neer, and classic championship matches featuring Arlovski vs. Sylvia and Hughes vs. Trigg. Other fighters include Ken Shamrock, Forrest Griffin and many more rough-and-tumble bruisers.

BRIDEZILLAS: SEASON 2

MASTERS OF HORROR: JOE DANTE: HOMECOMING
Joe Dante gave us Piranha and Gremlins, but the horror doesn’t stop there. In the politicized chiller Homecoming, dead soldiers come back to life to get in one last word -- by voting in the presidential election. While the U.S. is at war overseas, a political puppet says it be great if the martyrs of war could return to express their gratitude for serving their country. Unfortunately, he gets his wish, and the dead aren’t all that grateful.

BRIDEZILLAS: SEASON 1
Sit back and watch the nuptial dramas unfold in the first season of this train-wreck wedding reality show, which peeks under the veil to reveal the ugly side of getting married. Martha Stewart shares her pristine kitchen with some of the worlds most celebrated chefs in this delicious compilation of cooking demonstrations. PERRY MASON: SEASON 1
An intrepid defense lawyer specializing in ostensibly hopeless cases, Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) regularly exonerates his innocent clients in this long-running courtroom drama series. With his knack for uncovering the truth, the unflappable attorney -- aided by steadfast secretary Della Street (Barbara Hale) and private investigator Paul Drake (William Hopper) -- methodically extracts sensational witness-stand confessions.

THE BLACK SWAN
Notorious pirate Henry Morgan (Laird Cregar) and buccaneer Jamie Waring (Tyrone Power) are partners in crime -- until Morgan is made governor of Jamaica and sends Waring to rid the Caribbean of criminals. Ambivalent about his new role, Waring finally reforms after falling for the beautiful Margaret (Maureen OHara). But when Margaret is kidnapped, Waring must come to her rescue in this swashbuckler, which won a Best Cinematography Oscar.

LAZYTOWN: RECORDS DAY
Two episodes of the colorful Nickelodeon show "LazyTown" teach the importance of eating right and staying physically fit. In "Records Day," while the townspeople are busy trying to set new world records, Robbie Rotten does his best to have LazyTown declared the Worlds Laziest Town. In "Hero for a Day," Ziggy tries to emulate Sportacus but trips over his own heroics when his actions halt the construction of the kids new clubhouse.

BLACKBEARD
Eighteenth-century swashbuckler Edward Teach -- better known as Blackbeard (Angus Macfadyen) -- notoriously dominated the high seas from 1716 to 1718. In this Hallmark miniseries, the quintessential seafaring pirate sails into infamy against many of his greatest rivals, including Gov. Charles Eden (Richard Chamberlain). The acclaimed cast also includes Stacy Keach as Capt. James Hornigold and Rachel Ward as Sally Dunbar.

ONE LAST RIDE
Oscar winner Ang Lee produces this fast-moving drama about the destructive power of a compulsive gambling addiction. Based on a true story, the narrative follows one day in the life of Michael (Patrick Cupo) as he struggles to overcome his personal demons and end the downward spiral that’s threatening his life and future. Tony Vitale directs this emotionally driven character study co-starring Charles Durning and Chazz Palminteri.

CRASH LANDING
A private jet carrying a billionaires daughter becomes the flight from hell after terrorists hijack the plane. But the diabolical hostage plot hits a snag in the form of Maj. John Masters (Antonio Sabato Jr.). After a quick, bloody struggle, Masters gains control of the damaged plane. With several passengers in critical condition, Masters must land the craft on a small Pacific island during a Category 5 hurricane in this high-altitude thriller.

FORCED TO KILL
After trying to repossess a Jaguar, smart-aleck repo man Johnny (Corey Michael Eubanks) is captured by a demented backwoods family, who coerce him into playing a most dangerous game -- killing people with his bare hands. Crazed Sheriff Wilson (Michael Ironside) presides over this deadly bare-fist tournament. The gritty thriller helmed by Russell Solberg also includes performances by director Ron Howard’s father, Rance, and brother Clint.

SUDDEN FURY
When a devoutly religious couple is found dead in their home, the oldest of their three foster children, mental patient Daniel Hannigan (Johnny Galecki), becomes the prime suspect. The youngest brother, Chris (Eric Lloyd), swears he saw Daniel commit the murders, but evidence soon mounts against the quiet middle son, Brian (Neil Patrick Harris). This chilling made-for-TV drama is based on a novel by Leslie Walker.

ICE
Jewel thief Ellen Reed (Traci Lords) must go on the run after mob thugs -- led by godfather Vito Malta (Jorge Rivero) -- gun down her husband and partner in crime, Charley (Phillip Troy Linger). But Ellen can barely make an escape before a rival gangster hunts her down and steals her diamonds. Minus one husband and $60 million worth of ice, Ellen takes on the mob all by herself -- picking off her enemies one by one.

CROMARTIE HIGH: THE MOVIE
This out-of-this-world comedy based on the manga by Ejii Nonaka walks the halls of Cromartie High School, where the mild-mannered Kamiyama (Takamasa Suga) is trying to institute a few reforms. Problems arise when the privileged but dim-witted Hokuto (Noboru Kaneko) tries to use his wealth to take over the school, and the schools resident gorilla -- that’s right, a gorilla -- tries to make a few changes of his own.

ECW: ONE NIGHT STAND 2006
Some of the biggest names in Extreme Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment come together once again for a spectacular evening of carnage captured live in New York City. The electrifying action includes matchups between John Cena and Rob Van Dam; the World Heavyweight Championship battle between Rey Mysterio and Sabu; plus a coed tag-team fight involving Tommy Dreamer, Terry Funk and Beulah vs. Mick Foley, Edge and Lita.

JOHNNY CASH: LIVE IN DENMARK: 1971
The incomparable Johnny Cash takes the stage with his wife, June Carter Cash, the Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins and the Carter Family in this 1971 concert filmed live for Danish television. A memorable set list includes "Folsom Prison Blues," "I Walk the Line," "A Boy Named Sue," "Man in Black" "Me and Bobby McGee," "Help Me Make It Through the Night," "Blue Suede Shoes," "Flowers on the Wall" and the Maybelle Carter tribute, "Dear Mama."

THE HOUSE OF ELLIOT: SERIES 3
When their father dies, leaving them penniless, destitute sisters Evangeline (Louise Lombard) and Beatrice (Stella Gonet) Eliott must get by with nothing but a passion for haute couture. In the third season of this stylish BBC drama, the sisters return to London after a stint in the United States; Tillys (Cathy Murphy) pregnancy begins to affect her health; and Jacks (Aden Gillett) involvement with the Communist Party stirs up trouble.

SWORD OF HONOR
On the eve of his retirement, undercover cop Alan (Jeff Pruitt) is murdered during an art gallery heist, prompting his partner, Johnny Lee (martial arts ace Steven Vincent Leigh), to swear vengeance. With an ancient sword his only link to the grisly murder, Johnny sets out to deliver his special brand of justice in this thriller set in Las Vegas seamy underworld. European kickboxing legend Sophia Crawford kicks butt as Alan’s tough sister.

T-FORCE
When an elite team of police cyborgs -- called T-Force -- blows up a terrorist helicopter and knowingly kills six hostages on board, officials shut down the robot program -- but the androids have a plan of their own. With a deadly cyborg uprising laying waste to the city, human cop Lt. Jack Floyd (Jack Scalia) must team up with a renegade droid to track down the source of the insurgency and save the day in this futuristic techno-thriller.

FIST OF HONOR
A mob boss frames an Irish ex-boxer named Fist Sullivan (Sam J. Jones) for a slew of murders, including those of a rival don and Sullivan’s fiancé, Gina (international model Joey House). Not content with his fall-guy status, Sullivan comes back swinging to clear his name and avenge Gina’s death. This mob thriller features 1970s crime greats Abe Vigoda (The Godfather) and Harry Guardino (Dirty Harry) as rival Mafioso’s.

VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA: VOL. 2
The courageous seamen of the atomic submarine Seaview return for more exciting aquatic adventures in these 16 episodes from the classic sci-fi series. Tasked with investigating underwater phenomena, the crew encounters threats of every stripe, from nasty sea creatures to imminent nuclear catastrophe. Richard Basehart and David Hedison head the cast, while guest stars include Robert Duvall, Leslie Nielsen, Ed Asner and George Sanders.

ONLY IN AMERICA
Although he moved to America with plans to become a lawyer, Mandela (Pascal Atuma) found his fortune by marrying a citizen (Tanjareen Martin) and selling marijuana from the back of an ice cream truck. That’s why, when his Nigerian parents come for a visit expecting to see great things from their successful son, he has to act fast to find a law office and pose as an attorney in this zany, cross-cultural farce.

I DREAM OF JEANNIE: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON
The genie is out of the bottle again in Cocoa Beach, Fla., as Jeannie (Barbara Eden) sets out to convince her astronaut master (Larry Hagman) there’s nothing she wont do to win his heart. From shrinking her master to changing the weather, Jeannie and the rest of the gang -- including cast members Bill Daily and Hayden Rorke, plus guest stars such as Groucho Marx and Sammy Davis Jr. -- get into plenty of trouble in the 31 episodes collected here.

CARE BEARS: HEARTS AT SEA
Climb aboard the S.S. Friendship for an exciting collection of high-seas adventures starring those cuddly animated hibernators, the Care Bears. Selections include "The Fabulous Care Bears Safety Game," in which Grumpy hosts a quiz show and Mrs. Beastly plays along; "A Rhyme in Time," in which Grams reads safety rhymes to Hugs and Tugs; and "A Day Without Tugs," in which Hugs learns to play with her shadow.

THE ELLEN SHOW: THE COMPLETE SERIES
After Ellen DeGeneress first sitcom -- which broke stereotypes and turned her into a gender politics heavyweight -- ended amid tons of hype and controversy, the comic hid out. That exile ended with her return to television with this comedy. The ever-goofy DeGeneress plays an Internet exec who’s forced to move in with her mother (Cloris Leachman) after her business flames out, leaving her to deal with her past with hilarious aplomb.

PATRIOT ACT
Hilarious and, yes, even heartwarming, this unconventional documentary captures a war-torn Iraq through the eyes of comedian Jeffrey Ross, who, with camera in hand, agreed to join Drew Carey on a USO tour. Other featured comics include Kathy Kinney, Blake Clark, Kyle Dunnigan, Andres Fernandez, Rocky LaPorte and Bob Hope -- who appears posthumously courtesy of archival footage capturing his best USO performances.

BLOODLINES
When a policewoman learns that her mother has been murdered and her father is the chief suspect, she sets out to prove her dads innocence and find out what really happened on the day her mother died. Emma Pierson, Kevin McNally (Johnny English) and Robert Pugh (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) star in this British TV mystery directed by Philip Martin.

TALES OF TERROR FROMN TOKYO: THE MOVIE
Proving that fact is indeed stranger -- and often scarier -- than fiction, this Japanese anthology film weaves together eight spine-tingling but true supernatural stories. Ranging from positively terrifying to darkly humorous to eerily affecting, these macabre yarns will shake up your psyche and set your heart racing. Among the tales included are "The Night Watchmen," "Wisps of Smoke," "Gloves" and "Full-Length Mirror."

MURDER IN SUBURBIA: SERIES 1
An unlikely pair of female investigators examines the grisly underbelly of the English suburbs in this popular BBC crime series with a modern, feminist twist. The first season finds the well-bred, educated Detective Inspector Kate "Ash" Ashurst (Caroline Catz) getting to know her street-smart, working-class partner Detective Sgt. Emma "Scribbs" Scribbins (Lisa Faulkner) while their devilishly handsome boss (Jeremy Sheffield) runs interference.

KOKO: A TALKING GORILLA
At the tender age of 3, a female gorilla named Koko was brought to Stanford University, where she would learn to communicate through American Sign Language, astounding the world with her ability to "talk." This fascinating documentary from acclaimed director Barbet Schroeder and cinematographer Nestor Almendros tracks Kokos early years and shines a light on her controversial work with tutor Dr. Penny Patterson.

A DIFFERENT WORLD: SEASON 2
Initially launched as a "Cosby Show" spin-off for Lisa Bonet, this collegiate sitcom wrote her out of the second season, focusing instead on the dramas of Southern belle Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy). In this collection of episodes, Clair Huxtable (Phylicia Rashad) returns to campus to try to persuade Vanessa (Tempestt Bledsoe) to attend Hillman, and Dwayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Ron (Darryl M. Bell) decide to pledge a fraternity.

YUKIKAZE III
The third volume of this popular anime finds Lt. Rei Fukai and his advanced fighter jet, the Yukikaze, in another dimension, working overtime to fool aliens into falling for a holographic decoy. But with the alien force known as the JAM standing between Fukais Fairy Air Force and his portal home, chances are slim that hell ever see Earth again. Extras include interviews with director Masahiko Ohkura and voice actors Steve Staley and Dan Woren.

COP KILLERS
On their way to close a lucrative drug deal, a pair of hippies (Bill Osco and Jason Williams) gets stopped at a police roadblock and decides to open fire on the cops. In the resulting maelstrom, several officers get killed -- and the two criminals set off on a brutal interstate murder spree. Walter R. Cichy helmed this high-octane thriller replete with jaw-dropping gory makeup courtesy of Oscar winner Rick Baker.

LED ZEPPELIN: ON THE ROCK TRAIL
Get the Led out with this classic rock installment of the On the Rock Trail series, chronicling the highs and lows of one of the worlds most unforgettable and influential bands. As pioneers of modern-day hard rock and heavy metal, Led Zeppelin -- composed of charismatic front man Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham -- inspired legions of acts that would follow in their footsteps.

PINK FLOYD: ON THE ROCK TRAIL
Progressive British rock act Pink Floyd is the subject of this installment of the On the Rock Trail series, which tracks the peaks and valleys of the bands unprecedented and influential music career. Starting out in the 1960s with a psychedelic edge that was anything but mainstream, Pink Floyd went on to release a string of successful concept albums, including the classics "Dark Side of the Moon," "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall."

MY FAMILY AND OTHER ANIMALS
The wild adventures of an unconventionally talented clan unfold in this family-friendly drama, based on the acclaimed autobiography of naturalist Gerald Durrell (Eugene Simon).
