Yunjin Brocade Master Zhou Shuangxi Synopsis
The Chinese character Jin, which consists of two Chinese characters, Jin (means Gold) and Bo(means brocade), means luxurious and precious silk fabrics . "Yun Jin" is an appropriate name since it produces brocade as light as cloud and as expensive as gold. Yunjin Brocade is the highest form of silk weaving since ancient China. In 2009, the craftsmanship of Yunjin Brocade was inscribed on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Though as light as cloud, Yunjin is an embodiment of the ancient cultural civilization of the old City Nanjing and a combination of hard works and wisdoms of the Chinese craftsman. Zhou Shuangxi is one of China's greatest Yunjin weavers. Since 18 years old, he has been working with the Nanjing Yunjin Brocade Research Institute for almost 40 years. To him, his love for Yunjin is like loving his own child. His partners and students who he works passionately together with are like his family. It is his devotion that promotes the revitalization of Yunjin Brocade and wins him the title of the Representative Inheritor of Intangible Cultural Heritage at National Level.
