Yoga Journal Yoga Pose Encyclopedia 2010

Customer Reviews
NOTE: I received a free review copy of this DVD directly from Yoga Journal.

This Pose Encyclopedia is the latest DVD offering from Yoga Journal magazine; it is instructed by Yoga Journal contributing editor Jason Crandell. The aim of this DVD is to offer a reference tool of 35 essential yoga poses, presenting each posture individually and offering 360 views, thus allowing the student or teacher to gain a greater understanding of the pose. To facilitate this, Crandell cues the poses via voiceover while a single model, Cortney Cantrell, displays all of the postures.

After a brief disclaimer, the Main Menu appears. On the left-hand side, the Menu offers the options of Welcome (a brief introduction, also done in voiceover, by Crandell), Credits, and a complete pose list in either Sanskrit or English. On the right, the postures are broken down into the following submenus:

SUN SALUTATION ESSENTIALS
Three Poses

STANDING POSES
Eleven Poses

BACKBENDS
Three Poses

TWISTS
Three Poses

FORWARD BENDS
Three Poses

OTHER ESSENTIALS
Six Poses
(includes Corpse Pose, Shoulder Opening Series, & Victorious Breath)

In general, each individual posture breakdown is approximately 2 1/2 to 3 minutes in length. For poses that are intended to be performed on both sides of the body, such as Extended Triangle, Crandell will state at the end "Now practice your second side," but the second side is not shown. The model's movements are well-timed to Crandell's instruction, and when Crandell mentions modifications, these are shown by the model as well--for example, using a block under the hand (other props include a blanket and a strap). What the model does NOT show is the WRONG way to do the posture--i.e., occasionally Crandell will make a statement such as "be sure that you are not doing ____," but in these cases, the model does not provide an example of the incorrect stance for comparison's sake.

Although the pose descriptions themselves are fairly well-done, I found the way in which the submenus were organized to be frustrating. First, when you select a particular submenu--for example, "Standing Poses"--there is no "Play All" option. Given this, you are required to select each of the poses individually and return to the menu EVERY time, which is quite cumbersome. Another problem I had was with how the postures are organized within the segments themselves. Again using "Standing Poses" as an example, this section begins with Chair Pose, while Mountain Pose (which I think most yoga instructors would agree is the foundational standing posture) does not appear until fourth on the list. Also, when he is instructing Warrior 1, Crandell refers to the previous work on Warrior 2--but this posture comes AFTER Warrior 1 on the menu.

Unfortunately, I believe that the difficulties in navigating the menus of this DVD significantly limit its usefulness. Although it may have some value as a reference tool for beginning yoga students, the layout of this "encyclopedia" prevents it from being utilized effectively as a follow-along practice. Finally, while I am generally a fan of video media, in this instance, I think more experienced students or teachers looking for a reference manual would be more likely to benefit from one in book form, such as Judith Lasater's excellent 30 Essential Yoga Poses: For Beginning Students and Their Teachers or even the more lighthearted Cool Yoga Tricks.

Yoga Journal's Pose Encyclopedia is one-of-a-kind video tutorial from the most trusted name in yoga, Yoga Journal Magazine. Every pose is presented in a 360 degree view and is accompanied by an in-depth tutorial, so you can safely and effectively learn the basics of each posture. You don't just learn the poses correctly and safely - you gain a deeper understanding of each posture. A strong foundation means an effective practice as you study 35 essential yoga poses (standing poses, backbends, sun salutations, etc.) and prepare for wherever your practice takes you. The DVD is a constant reference tool for both beginners and experts; no matter how advanced you are in your practice, you can refer to the Yoga Pose Encyclopedia DVD to refine your alignment. The Yoga Pose Encyclopedia DVD is also a great tool to help students understand the details of these foundational postures, and it provides great ideas for creating lesson plans.

WWE SummerSlam 2012 2012

Customer Reviews
Just a couple of notes here in that with Booker T recently becoming the General Manager of SmackDown, he was removed from the commentary team so it's only the RAW announcers of Michael Cole & Jerry Lawler calling the action while later in the show Kevin Rudolf performed the SummerSlam theme.

Chris Jericho vs. Dolph Ziggler - Jericho came into this match with his ribs taped from an attack by Dolph on SmackDown days earlier but remained in control in the beginning with impactful elbows & chops that kept knocking Dolph down. Ziggler would gain control working over Jericho's ribs with moves like a grounded abdominal stretch to the point where Jericho would hurt himself on offense including a top rope frankensteiner while Dolph was able to keep breaking any momentum being built by Jericho by going to the ribs. This was the athletic contest you would expect from both men as they had a very fast paced back & forth match telling a good story in regards to the injury in the process.

Kane vs. Daniel Bryan - This shaped up to be a "David vs. Goliath" contest with Bryan doing the hit & run offense only for Kane to keep catching him with a big offense move like a slam or big boot but Bryan continued to work over Kane by chopping him down various kicks to the legs & chest including the top rope missile dropkick. Kane however continued to show his power advantage with a clothesline that almost turned Bryan inside out while going aerial himself with the flying clothesline but Bryan stuck to his game plan with his kicks before going aerial himself with the flying headbutt that ended up working against him. The match was a solid "big man vs. little man" contest while both men were able to play off the other factors in the match like Bryan's reactions to the crowds "YES!" chants along with Kane losing his temper.

Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio vs. The Miz - Mysterio came into match dressed as Batman from the recent "The Dark Night Rises" movie as he outpaced & outsmarted Miz early on taking him down & out of the ring before Miz was able to finally catch him on the outside & dump him on the railing hurting his midsection. Miz targeted that with moves like the chinlock & even a version of Shock Treatment as he became so dominate to the point where he started to show off & allowed Mysterio to regain momentum with moves like the seated senton before both men traded impactful moves like a powerbomb & tornado DDT. Good match.

World Champion Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio - With the issue getting so personal between both men, it started off physical with both going over the top & brawling at ringside with the action continuing in the ring as Del Rio worked over Sheamus' head after he sent him off the apron landing face first on the floor with kicks & grounded headlock. The focus then switched to Sheamus' previously injured arm including a codebreaker off the top rope onto the arm & the cross armbreaker. Sheamus refused to stay down & kept fighting including powering out of the armbreaker at one point along with his beating of Del Rio's chest in the corner. It was a good contest between both men with the only thing really negative to say was how the ending got a little too out of hand but opened the door to another rematch.

Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs. Primetime Players - After being jumped by Titus & O'Neal on RAW, Truth was all business to the point where he didn't do his usual "Little Jimmy" antics & started the match with a take down & punches. This was your typical tag team match where the babyfaces were in control before double teaming & cheating behind the referees back gained the advantage for the heels building to the hot tag to the other babyface on the apron. It's a formula that always works but nothing much to this match past that.

WWE Champion C.M. Punk vs. John Cena vs. Big Show - Show was dominate from the start chopping both men down to the point where Cena & Punk tried to double team at one point to no avail before separately trying to work over Show like Punk doing kicks & his elbow drop while Cena would later on hit his top rope legdrop only for Show to showcase his power by tossing them out of the ring or hitting big moves like his spear. Both Punk & Cena were able at one point to get submission holds on Show only for him to power out of them so they pulled a page out of the "Benoit-Jericho-Austin" feud in the past that ended up having the same controversial result & actions afterwords. This match only served two purposes in that it continued to showcase Big Show as the dominate monster while also pushing the issue of "respect" involving C.M. Punk but past that, this match would have been good for a TV main event but not a major PPV like this.

No Disqualification/No Count Out Match: Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar - Brock took Triple H into the corner & kept going for his previously injured arm early before Triple H was able to keep knocking Brock over the top rope which Brock responded by getting more serious taking off his fighting gloves. Brock dominated from here with a grounded punch right to the back of the head before targeting Triple H's arm with a hammerlock slam & stomps while also using whatever he could at ringside like the announce table & ring ropes & the steel steps before Triple H was able to find a weakness on Brock & work over that area. They really picked it up from here by countering each others signature moves from the Triple H's Pedigree to Brock's F5 & kimora lock before eventually one of them was caught with no way to escape. This was one of those types of matches where it wasn't bad at all as they told a good story focusing on injured body parts but it didn't live up to the hype as it didn't really come off as a "fight" unlike how their last two singles matches have (HHH at "WrestleMania" & Brock at "Extreme Rules").

In the end, this was a solid event from top to bottom as there wasn't one match that was unwatchable but the top two main events were disappointing for reasons I've already stated but everything else past that was solid to outstanding (Jericho/Dolph) so it's an event I'd check out.

For the 4th year in a row, WWE takes over Hollywood for the biggest event of the Summer! At the historic 25th edition of SummerSlam the Staples Center will shine brighter than ever as all the top Superstars look for career defining moments in one of WWE's signature events.

Martin, the night watchman, arrives with the setting sun in his rumbling blue Chevrolet. The cemetery mascots, EI Negro y La Negra, chase his truck down the road and greet him with wagging tails. The sound of construction fades away as the daytime workers leave and Martin is left alone, looking out over the skyline of mausoleums where Mexico's most notorious drug lords lie at rest. Crosses and steel construction bars pierce the purple and pink sky. As night descends luxurious cars fill the dirt roads. Mercedes, a sexy young widow, arrives with her little girl in a pristine white Audi. A portrait of her husband, a corrupt policeman holding a machine gun, watches over them as they sweep and mop the shiny marble floors. The coconut vendor's radio blasts a gory list of the day's murders: "Culiac n has become a war zone." The buzz of cicadas fills the air with anticipation. Through Martin's vigilant eyes we watch time pass in this place where time stands still.

The Woman in the Fifth 2011

Customer Reviews
Douglas Kennedy's perplexing novel THE WOMAN IN THE FIFTH has been further contorted by writer/director Pawel Pawlikowski for the film of the same name (aka La femme du Vème). If the viewer has read the novel then the confusion of the story will not be as surprising as it is to the novice viewer. In many ways this is a brilliant cinematic exploration of the fragility of the human mind, how events of the past can influence the manner in which we attempt to reconstruct a viable present. But in other ways this is a film that refuses to tell a story that is logical and will leave many viewers with some serious head scratching by movie's end.

Academic professor of literature and writer Tom Hicks (Ethan Hawke) seems to be fleeing America in the wake of a scandal simply because he wants to see his six-year-old daughter Chloé (Julie Papillon): Tom's estranged wife Nathalie (Delphine Chuillot) refuses to let Tom see his daughter, has a restraining order in place and seems fearful of Tom's character (it is suggested that Tom may have been in prison for the past six years). The police are called and Tom escapes onto a bus, falls asleep and s awakened at the end of the line having been robbed of this luggage and money. He is in the sleazy part of Paris inhabited by North Africans and Moroccans and finds a degree of solace in a tiny café, the beautiful Polish waitress Ania (Joanna Kulig) offers him coffee and introduces him to the owner, Sezer (Samir Guesmi) who allows him to room in the filthy place, an offer that is accompanied by a `job' where he will be a night watchman in a warehouse visited by shadowy figures who must give a code for Tom to allow entry. Tom uses his night jobsite to write lengthy letters to Chloé and spends his days spying on her at her school. At a bookstore he meets a fellow American who invites him to an evening reception for writers and there he encounters the very strange Margit (Kristin Scott Thomas), a bewitching but enigmatic widow of a Hungarian writer who is obviously attracted to Tom and sets meeting times and places for them to engage in a tryst (in the Fifth Arrondissement). Tom and Margit begin a tempestuous physical affair but at the same time Tom and Ania have an equally passionate affair and there is always in the background Tom's obsession to reunite with his daughter. But the story implodes with a murder, a disappearance, and a very strange change in the veracity of Margit's existence. It is at this point that the film becomes purposefully deranged and bizarre and the audience is left with merely some ideas and clues as to what has really happened. How are these incongruous events to make sense? Can they make sense? Is Tom succumbing to the same fever that kept him sheltered for many days upon his arrival in beautiful Paris? Has time somehow passed him by or is he living in an even grander deceit than he first thought?

The film is basically in French with English subtitles. Ethan Hawke struggle with the French but that is credible for a `just arrived' American. Kristin Scott Thomas offers her usual excellent skills as the strange Margit and the remainder of the cast do well with what little dialogue they are given. The dank atmospheric cinematography is by Ryszard Lenczewski and the correctly strange musical score (from an aria form a Handel opera sung by a countertenor to piano music excerpts form the Romantic era) is the work of Max de Wardener. Pawel Pawlikowski`s moody, menacing, downbeat film takes something from the director's Polish compatriots Polanski and Kieslowski. It is offbeat but for those who appreciate experimental cinema this is well worth your time. Grady Harp, June 12

Product Description

Before he became the Father of our nation, the face on our dollar bill, before he defined enduring customs for this country's 200+ years of existence, he was the man that broke the most powerful military force in the world and led the United States to freedom.

Washington the Warrior: In this landmark release, THE HISTORY CHANNEL® presents an intimate chronicle of Washington's little-known military life. Follow him from his first officer's commission in the Virginia militia through the difficult lessons of his youth and his 17-year retirement. Witness his reemergence as the soul of the American Revolution and see how he transformed a ragtag band of men into an army that could battle - and beat - the greatest military in the world.

The Crossing: December 17, 1776. Hounded by superior British forces, his army decimated by disease, desertion and lack of funds, General George Washington (played by Jeff Daniels) faces the unthinkable: he is losing the war for American independence. With the fate of the American Revolution hanging in the balance, Washington takes his ragtag army across the ice-choked Delaware River. That morning he leads a surprise attack against a garrison of battle-hardened Hessian mercenaries in a military strike that would forever change the fate of the young nation.

Customer Reviews
Michael Biehn writes, directs and stars in THE VICTIM, and does a credible job in all three areas.

The low budget psychological thriller, which has a marvelous twist ending, has Biehn playing a recluse who lives in a remote cabin high on a mountaintop. One night desperate good time girl Jennifer Blanc (Mrs. Biehn in real life) comes pounding on his door looking for help. It seems that she and her friend (Danielle Harris) were partying in the woods with a couple of off-duty cops, and one of them accidentally killed the friend. Since she is the only witness to the crime, the crooked officers are after her...and now they are also knocking on Biehn's door.

THE VICTIM is definitely "grindhouse" fare, but it is well done and quite entertaining. I do feel that the multiple flashbacks are an unnecessary intrusion to the forward movement of the story, but on the other hand, the film would have been too short without them.

Potential viewers should be warned that the "R" rating is definitely deserved.

? Michael B. Druxman

Annie's life is in jeopardy after she witnesses the horrific murder of her closest friend. Fleeing from two attackers she stumbles across Kyle, a recluse living in the middle of the woods. Two worlds collide in this grindhouse psychological thriller that will make you question your trust in mankind. Written, directed and starring Michael Biehn (The Terminator, Aliens, Grindhouse: Planet Terror, The Divide.) Also starring Jennifer Blanc (Hatchet III), Danielle Harris (Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers) and Tanya Newbould (X-Men: The Last Stand.)

The Salt of Life 2012

Customer Reviews
Forced to retire at 50, Gianni finds himself unnecessary in his wife's and daughter's lives (though there's obvious affection, and the little we see of his relationship with his wife has the comfortableness of long companionship). And he is perpetually at his mother's beck and call despite her having a full time caregiver. One of Gianni's friends brings to his attention some of the other older men who area carrying on affairs with younger women and begins encouraging him to pursue his own affair with a younger woman - any younger woman.

Gianni begins to notice attractive young women everywhere - almost as though surrounded by them (at one point, he is). These beauties, though, almost seem to live in a world where he is a ghost; observing them while he goes unnoticed. He also begins noting a separate world of old men, unconnected to a life with women and fears becoming one of them. He makes awkward attempts with a few of the attractive young women who are aware of him, tries to rekindle an old flame, and gets shanghaied to be "wingman" on an attempted double-pickup. Many of the women are unselfconsciously beautiful and charming. Others, simply capitalize on their good looks to encourage older men to spend money on them.

The humor is mostly gentle, and often subtle, relying on lingering moments and tiny shifts of posture and gaze.

"The Salt of Life" reveals a bit of the difference between the life we have vs. the life we imagine we could have and how they are reconciled (or not).

In his warm and witty follow-up to the 2010 hit Mid-August Lunch, writer-director-actor Gianni Di Gregorio has created another sparkling comedy with a dash of bittersweet. In The Salt of Life, Gianni plays a middle-aged retiree who has become invisible to all the women of Rome, regardless of age or relation. He contends with a demanding mother (played by Lunch s great nonagenarian Valeria de Franciscis); a patronizing wife; a slacker daughter; and a wild party-girl neighbor who uses him... as a dog walker. Watching his codger friends snare beautiful young girlfriends on the sun-kissed cobblestones of Trastevere, Gianni tries his polite, utterly gracious best to generate some kind of extracurricular love life with both hilarious and poignant results.

The Mentalist The Complete Fourth Season 2011

Customer Reviews
"The Mentalist" returns for a fourth season on CBS, starring Simon Baker as Patrick Jane, a former psychic medium and con man, now working as a consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with a team led by Senior Special Agent Theresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) that includes Special Agents Kimball Cho (Tim Kang), Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman), and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti). "The Mentalist" has thrived for three seasons as a clever police procedural built around Jane's uncanny ability to read and manipulate people (including, sometimes, his own teammates).

As the fourth season opens, the team is in deep trouble. Patrick Jane is on trial for murder, for having shot a man he believed to be the infamous serial killer Red John, murderer of Jane's own wife and child. Lisbon is on suspension for failing to manage Jane, while her team has been scattered. Patrick Jane has a lot of work to do. He needs to somehow survive a trial, then regain the trust of a new CBI boss and resurrect his old team.

The interpersonal dynamics of the team continue to be interesting and entertaining, and will be affected by Lisbon's new supervisor, a man with an agenda. Under duress, Lisbon and Jane will become much more frank with each other about a great many things. Lisbon and the team will have to deal with an angry and edgy Van Pelt, traumatized by the betrayal and death of her fiancee last season. Cho and Rigsby will have the unique experience of watching Jane manipulate someone else's team and team leader, for a change, while dealing with their own entangling personal relationships outside the team. And is it possible that Red John is still out there, still haunting Patrick Jane? And if he is, will there be another confrontation?

"The Mentalist: The Complete Fourth Season" is very highly recommended to its fans.

In Season Four of The Mentalist, Simon Baker returns as Patrick Jane, consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), solving the state's toughest homicides. After gunning down serial killer Red John during Season 3's explosive finale, the question remains -- is the man Jane shot really Red John? When it comes to The Mentalist, the truth is often elusive. And with a new boss, puzzling new cases, and Red John never far from his mind, Jane will need his keen skills of observation, manipulative theatrics and smooth charm to sidestep the system that stands in the way of the truth.

The Cabin In The Woods DVD Digital Copy 2011

Customer Reviews
With geek god Joss Whedon (creator of TV's Buffy and Firefly among other fan favorites) on board, it's fair to say that the expectations for "The Cabin in the Woods" were quite high for enthusiasts of the horror genre. Here he shares a writing credit with the film's director Drew Goddard and the result is one of the year's more entertaining experiments. I truly think that this is a film that will suffer due to those that are willing to discuss too many of the plot points in advance, so I'll be brief in my actual descriptions. I will say this, though, the less you know about the movie--the more fun you can have. In my opinion, even the advertising campaign and trailers hint at too much. You know from the start that this isn't your typical fright fest. Instead, what is served plays up and skewers every horror movie cliche imaginable. It is both hip and witty, as well as smarter than it has any right to be. It twists movie conventions around in clever new ways and makes something that seems remarkably fresh and different. And if you're a fan of horror movies, this is simply fun, fun, fun.

Of course, we all know the genre of movies that involve a cabin in the woods (or other appropriately desolate place). Let's get a car full of kids, strand them, and then start picking them off in increasingly creative ways. At the start, that's exactly the scenario that "The Cabin in the Woods" sets up. We meet five standard character archetypes for these type of films: the jock (Chris Hemsworth), the stoner (Fran Kranz), the good girl (Kristen Connolly), the vixen (Anna Hutchison) , and the scholar (Jesse Williams). After a brief bit of character introduction, we're off to the woods. As they settle in, each rises to their individual stereotype. First there's drunken revelry, then there's the discovery of a very spooky basement, and then mayhem ensues. What's going on and can anyone survive? If you've seen the trailers, however, (and if not, this is also included as the first scenes in the movie) you know that there is something more complex at work behind the scenes. But that's all you get from me. Let's just say that the film turns into a post-modern game as much as a traditional horror endeavor.

The film really works on several levels. It's funny without being overly precious. It always knowingly involves the audience in its sense of gamesmanship. The fact that we have more information than the characters (but not everything, of course) makes us complicit in an enjoyable voyeuristic experience. And yet, there are plenty of scares and surprises in store. "The Cabin in the Woods" has relatively moderate goals, it just wants to put on a good show. The ending pushes quite far and is deliriously over-the-top. It may not stand up to much intellectual scrutiny, but I didn't care. I was just along for the ride. This may not necessarily be considered among the "best" movies of the year, but it is easily one of the more entertaining ones. And in that way, Whedon and Goddard have honored horror movie fans everywhere. For sheer entertainment, about 4 1/2 stars. KGHarris, 5/12.

Bonus Features Include:
Commentary with writer/director Drew Goddard & writer/producer Joss Whedon
Cabin's completely hellzapoppin' final act, which mashes-up seemingly every supernatural trope in existence into a coherent, outrageously plasma-soaked validation of the genre. In conclusion, if you have any interest in horror movies at all, you gotta see this. --Andrew Wright

Tazza The High Rollers Two-Disc Special Edition 2012

Customer Reviews
I've long been a fan of the slick South Korean crime drama "Tazza: The High Rollers" and I'm pleased that it's finally getting a belated North American debut. The film was initially released in 2006 and did quite well both critically and popularly. When it played in America on the festival circuit, for example, it won Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Feature at the Newport Beach Film Festival in 2007. Not exactly the Oscars, I know, but someone besides me must have liked it! Gritty, excessively violent, and absolutely ruthless, perhaps "Tazza: The High Rollers" isn't for everyone. But for those that like to explore the seamy underbelly of the dark side of life, the universal concepts of greed, corruption, and power positioning remain intact. And, as you might expect, power and brutality in the criminal underworld are inextricably intertwined and "Tazza" doesn't shy away from an explicit gruesomeness this relationship creates.

Boiled down to its simplest elements, "Tazza" qualifies as a revenge thriller. A brash young gambler (an excellent Seung-woo Cho) never met a winning streak that he wouldn't ride. Impetuous and over-confident, he meets his match on a rigged game of cards. It seems, however, that manipulation is commonplace in this game (and our hero doesn't shy away from the same tactics so the moral ground of his dilemma is a bit shaky). As his life savings is ripped away, his life will be irrevocably changed. Bent on retribution, he enacts a complicated infiltration of the criminal organization responsible for the swindle. But the deeper he goes to close in on his ultimate target, the more it may cost him and those around him. Yun-seok Kim (from the excellent Chaser, another must-see film) scores as a legendary card player, and Hye-su Kim is absolutely captivating as a seductress responsible for setting up games. Almost everyone is a villain in this piece, to some extent or another, but you never disconnect from the unpleasantness due to great performances and a desire to see who can manage to escape unscathed.

Based on the adult comic "The War of Flowers," this is a film that has style and visual interest to spare. There is an abundant use of split screen and the narrative jumps back and forth through time at will. There is so much going on, one must certainly pay attention to appreciate the film's intricacies. It is not for a casual viewer, but someone willing to invest in the journey. One drawback, for me, is that I was not familiar with hwatu gambling. As much of the movie is centered around the cards, I really wanted to understand the game better to maximize my enjoyment of these sequences. I still thought that "Tazza" was tremendously entertaining as a slick and twisty thriller. Highly recommended. KGHarris, 8/12.

After losing his entire savings in an illegal, backroom card game, Goni (CHO Seung-woo, ''The Sword with No Name'') discovers it was all a set up - he was swindled by professional gamblers. Enraged and desperate, he sets out to get his money back by any means necessary. Impressed by the young man's determination, veteran gambler Mr. Pyeong (BAEK Yoon-sik, ''The Taste of Money'') takes Goni on as his apprentice and teaches him all there is to know about Hwatu, a card game also known as ''The War of Flowers.'' Now Goni is ready to make his debut in an underworld where the stakes are high and the rules are few: To win, you must be ruthless. The hand must be quicker than the eye. No game is safe. And there are no friends for life, just as there are no enemies for life.

''Tazza'' is the popular and critically acclaimed drama about master gamblers (''tazza'') and the games they play and features direction from CHOI Dong-hoon (The Thieves, The Big Swindle, Woochi) and an all-star cast including CHO Seung-woo (The Sword With No Name, Marathon), KIM Hye-soo (The Thieves, Modern Boy), BAEK Yoon-sik (The Taste of Money, The Big Swindle), YOO Hae-jin (Moss, Public Enemy), and KIM Yun-seok (The Chaser, Punch). Based on the comic illustrated by HUH Young-man and written by KIM Se-young, Tazza was produced by Sidus FNH and Charm Films. This special 2-DVD edition includes the feature film with upgraded English subtitles - plus almost 3 hours of video extras previously available only on the South Korean limited-edition release Extra features: Tazza: Comic vs. Movie, Adaptation of the Comic, The Making of Tazza: The High Rollers, staff and cast interviews, character discussion by the cast and crew, documentary about action sequences, Hwatu Explained, deleted and alternate scenes (with on/off director commentary), promotional footage, plus 5 Points Pictures trailers.

Supernatural The Complete Seventh Season 2011

Customer Reviews
I don't think Supernatural has fans. I think Supernatural has fanatics. The word "fan" implies that those who watch this show are passive. That they look forward to that one hour a week where they can escape and watch these boys fight what overwhelming "big bad" they are facing, turn off the TV set and then go about their daily lives. "Fanatic" is far more fitting for the followers of this show. We are obsessed. We read spoilers, we go to conventions, we write fan fiction, guess at plotlines, and emotionally invest in characters to the point where they become our family. This show has been on the air for SEVEN years and over those years there has been so much character and plot development that it has definitely paid off to be a fan. It is clear that the writers are smart because the consistently deliver succinct and intelligent writing and continue to move the show forward in a clear and sweeping development through Heaven and Hell, and now even Purgatory. The actors are talented, and can consistently deliver humor and heartbreak with rough raw emotion that makes the show feel realistic even if there are supernatural elements that could not happen in the real world.

A lot of people have complained about the last couple years, but I think Dean says it all in Season 4's "The Monster at the End of this Book"-"For fans they sure do complain a lot" People like to whine and complain about the last couple of seasons but at the end of the day if they aren't watching then they don't have anything to complain about and if they can complain about the plotlines of the seasons that they supposedly hate then they're still watching!

Each year there is a new surprise and new drama and new humor and the new greatness. I can't wait for Season 8 and all of the whiners will just have to continue to whine and I will continue to toss them up to representing the human condition. The show is constantly trying to out do itself, but in a realistic transition from it's own past, which is incredibly rare in a series and should be respected greatly.

Even after 7 years of being on the air, I continue to be invested in the characters and curious to how it will all turn out, not many long-running shows have the ability to keep you on the edge of your feet with perfect writing and a past that they are so aware of.

If you are not watching it. You should start.

In Season 7, Sam and Dean fight demons. Real demons, like Lucifer, who tortures Sam with visions of Hell. Private demons, as the brothers face a traumatic personal loss when Bobby is cut down by alien forces. And as Sam and Dean travel the back roads of America, hunting monsters who wreak havoc on the innocent, a new and more terrible foe hunts them: Leviathans, freed from Purgatory and immune to the brothers' arsenal of weapons and cunning. With Bobby gone, all Sam and Dean can rely on is each other. But will that be enough? Uncover the terrifying revelations in this 4-disc, 23-episode Season 7.

Suburgatory The Complete First Season 2011

Customer Reviews
When ABC positioned its new sitcom "Suburgatory" between the wildly underrated "The Middle" and the consistently charming "Modern Family," it had a cushy slot between two of my favorite shows on TV. But I was a bit skeptical. I have liked star Jeremy Sisto for years, but never envisioned him headlining a weekly comedy. And the idea of city folk making fun of the suburbs has been a topic of humor for decades. As I tuned in for the premiere, the show scored a number of easy laughs--maybe too easy. Truthfully, the program felt dated. I felt like the same sitcom with the same jokes could have been on in the eighties or the nineties. That's how familiar the suburban satire premise appeared. But as the season progressed, I found myself liking the show more and more as it found an increasingly unique voice. Through witty scripts, eccentric plot lines, and especially a deft comic ensemble of actors--"Suburgatory" fully came into its own. It may not qualify as TV's best sitcom, but it is solidly entertaining and appealing.

The basic set-up involves Sisto bringing his daughter (Jane Levy) into the clean living suburbs from their existence in New York City. Of course, they both love the city but Sisto thinks this is the best option for raising his teenaged girl. Levy, very Emma Stone-esque, is perfect as the wizened yet cynical protagonist. She and Sisto view their new home as a Wonderland of eccentricity and early episodes play largely off this fish-out-of-water concept. Both smart and funny, Levy brings a contemporary edge that helps to buoy the more well-worn elements of the initial storylines. As they get to know their neighbors, we do as well. And this is where the show really starts to shine as an ensemble piece. Among the cast, there is Ana Gasteyer (as the no-nonsense rule maker), Cheryl Hines (as the spoiled socialite) and Alan Tudyk (as Sisto's competitive best friend). There is also a talented young cast for Levy to play off of as she tries to adjust to her surroundings.

While Levy is certainly the focal point of the show, the supporting characters all got stronger and more pronounced as the year went on. One of the show's more intriguing story line involves an increasing flirtation between Hines and Sisto and there is a funny rivalry between Hine's daughter and Levy. As with every sitcom, you might not fully love every plot thread. Late in the season, Alicia Silverstone has a romantic arc with Sisto that I was never particularly crazy for (it included a surrogate pregnancy angle that didn't really work for me either). But the appeal of the show is that the actors are game and energetic and sell the material. Gasteyer, for my taste, is absolute perfection (she's not even in the starring credits). Every time she's on screen. she serves up a laugh (double points when she's with her husband played by Chris Parnell). And Hines is deceptively complex, this is a real change of pace from her years on "Curb Your Enthusiasm." But everyone is fully committed to the madness, which is oftentimes slapstick in nature, and so the show is infectiously fun. And a final shout-out to Jane Levy for making a stock character seem fresh and real. Season One consists of 22 episodes. KGHarris, 6/12.

Manicured lawns. Cookie-cutter homes. Big lips. Little nose jobs. Synchronized sprinkler systems that erupt at the exact same time. A massive mall, the mecca for mass-consumerism and soggy food-court cuisine. Welcome to the suburbs, heaven for many. But for one teenage transplant from New York City, the suburbs represent her unique version of hell. Forget purgatory -- this is Suburgatory. Suburgatory is a family comedy that asks us not to judge our neighbors until we've gardened in their clogs. It is also about one man's struggle to answer the question that has plagued parents for all time: Is the safe choice really the right choice?

This film has covered a ton of ground on the U.S. film festival circuit and taken home award after award.

During a Q&A at the SOHO Film Festival, the directors disclosed their extremely low budget. Watching it, it almost seems impossible. I also know it's a first time feature for Texas directors Mark Dennis and Ben Foster... Again, not a hint of amateurism.

Great cinematography, great music, great acting, great movie.

Love the trailer for it: [...]

A gripping drama follows a down on his luck musician who is convinced by his therapist, a man with motives of his own, that the best option for his family is to completelt disappear and start a new life with a new identity. Winner of multiple festival audience and director awards.

"I am the anointed servant of God and I tell you to be silent!" Deadhead turned born-again-Christian Carl (Kinnear) is friends with the pastor of his local mega-church Dan Day (Brosnan) and is invited to accompany him to scientist Dr. Paul Blaylock's (Harris) house for a discussion. When a terrible accident happens Carl finds himself fingered in the incident and does everything he can to prove he is innocent. Things aren't always easy though. Having never seen a preview for this I was excited for this based off the cast alone. While I will say this is a good movie and a very dark comedy I was a little disappointed. The main flaw this had was that the movie had a good idea but had only ten minutes of it. There was a lot of repeating going on and a few scenes that seemed like they were only put in to increase the running time. I have to say that Brosnan and Kinnear played very similar parts to the ones they played in "The Matador" (which is a better movie) but it seems to fit them. It may sound like I'm bashing this movie. I don't mean to if that's how it comes off. I did enjoy it and laughed a few times but based off the cast I was a little disappointed (but after movies like "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" and "Son Of No One" I need to stop thinking just because the cast is great means the movie will be great.) Overall, a decent dark comedy that is worth watching but tone down your expectations. I give it a B-.

Being a fan of the show, I just preordered this. It is true that it does not contain the game center segments due to licensing issues but neither did the Japanese DVD releases. With the episodes being translated with subtitles from zari-gani of the SA GCCX Team, you know it will be top notch. The price is a little steep, but I love the show and I want to show my support so that more episodes will be released in the US.

Retro Game Master is a reality television show unlike any other that taps into the mega world of classic gaming. The show, known in Japan as Game Center CX, features comedian Shinya Arino playing some of Japan's most popular and most difficult classic games. In each episode, Arino plays a retro video game that audiences remember playing, but few could master. The goal is to finish the game in one sitting. It doesn't always go as planned. This highly addictive series has been running for 16 seasons in Japan. This set includes 14 of the very best episodes.

Persona 4 Collection 1 2012

Customer Reviews
I just got the Blu-ray of Persona 4: The Animation today which is a few weeks before it's supposed to be released, but I pre-ordered it back in July from Rightstuf who for some reason decided to ship it to me early before the release date. As you can imagine I was pleasantly surprised when I got an email telling me that it had already shipped!

But enough about how I got it, lets get on with the review! This release only contains the English audio and not any of the Japanese track, but that's a problem with the Japanese licensers not Sentai Filmworks. If Sentai was allowed, they would have kept the Japanese track in. As far as the English voice cast goes, just like the video game, it is amazingly good and most of the voice actors, even the side characters, reprised their roles. The only differences are the voices of Chie Satonaka, who is now played by Erin Fitzgerald instead of Tracey Rooney, and Teddie, who is now played by Sam Riegel instead of Dave Wittenberg.

However, Teddie fans will not be disappointed because Sam Riegel does an amazing Teddie in the same style as Dave Wittenberg, at times I even forgot that Teddie was even recast because it was so similar to the Dave Wittenberg performance. And yes, the un-bearable puns are still there.

Chie(Fitzgerald) sounds quite different from Chie(Rooney), but the voice still sounds right for the character and Chie is still Chie. The folks that complained that Chie sounded too old in the game will be glad that Chie sounds more like a high school girl.

The story is great, the cast is great, and even people who didn't play the game can get into it. A must-have for anime and Persona fans.

When Yu Narukami moves to the country town of Inaba to stay with his uncle and cousin, he's expecting a lot more peace and quiet than he's been used to in the big city. What he isn't expecting is for his uncle's job as a police detective to spill over into his own life. Or for the murders that are occurring across town to be somehow linked to Yu's own strange experiences, odd local weather patterns and a mysterious TV show world that seems to be attempting to get Yu to enter it! Now, together with a new group of friends, Yu must plunge into a bizarre alternate reality where he gains unique abilities that will either help him solve the riddle of the mystery killer, or lead him to his doom. Journey into the Velvet Room and beyond as the hit PlayStation 2r game becomes a spectacular anime in PERSONA 4 Collection 1!

I was wondering why Paul's rendition of George Harrison's "Here Comes the Sun" is not included in this concert? He did perform it that night and I read it was one of the hightlights of the show. I saw Paul in Chicago on his most recent tour and the Harrison song was a real highlight for me, here. Also, are there any extras on the disk? Interviews or sound checks or something.

A stunning live performance by the legendary Paul Simon featuring performances of some of his most beloved and classic songs as well as newer selections from his critically acclaimed 2011 release, So Beautiful or So What.

Patience After Sebald 2012

Customer Reviews
This is the first film about the international acclaimed writer, W.G. Sebald, portraying the work and influence of this author. In addition to historic facts, contributions are included from writers, filmmakers, and artists. The art and rich landscape is stunning, and the portrait of life and loss is thought-provoking throughout. The film brings the viewer through Coastal East Anglia, the path which followed Sebald in "The Rings Of Saturn.' Brilliant, and Entertaining. Highly Recommended!

A richly textured essay film on landscape, art, history, life and loss, Patience (After Sebald) offers a unique exploration of the work and influence of internationally acclaimed writer W.G. Sebald (1944 2001). With contributions from major writers, artists and filmmakers, including Adam Philips, Robert Macfarlane, Rick Moody and Tacita Dean, the film is structured around a walk through coastal East Anglia, the same path followed by Sebald in his ground-breaking book, The Rings of Saturn. Directed by the Grierson Award winning director of Joy Division, Patience is the first film on this important and vital writer, and marks ten years since his untimely death.

New York Mets 50th Anniversary Collectors DVD SET 2012

Customer Reviews
I have been waiting to see what would be included in this set and its a great disapointment. 4 out of the 5 games have already been released on other Mets DVD sets. The higlights films from the early years are interesting but still not worth the price if you have the other Mets DVD sets.
All the games from the 1969 World Series do exist in fairly decent shape. Why couldn't MLB release that entire Series instead of one game on a previous set and one game on this set.

Modern Family The Complete Third Season 2011

Customer Reviews
This show is hilariously funny. We couldn't stop watching. We missed the first two seasons and caught up by buying the DVDs. Our kids suggested the show to us. I don't think I've ever laughed as hard at a sitcom. The family is just dysfunctional enough to funny, but not so much as to be condescending and they, in a comical way, broach a lot of controversial subjects. We're going to watch them all again and we hardly ever watch reruns of TV shows until about 10 years time has gone by.

Join TV's #1 family for another hilarious and refreshingly original season of Modern Family, winner of eleven Emmyr Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series two years in a row! As the extended Pritchett/Dunphy clan faces an uproariously unpredictable array of family vacations, holiday hassles, troublesome in-laws, and surprising secrets, they still somehow manage to thrive together as one big, loving family - even as they drive each other absolutely insane! one of if not the greatest concert ive ever seen. a must watch for MJ fans, or people who enjoy watching live performers

Michael Jackson's legendary July 16, 1988 concert at Wembley Stadium. The concert is not a compilation of performances, but rather one complete show, exactly as Michael performed it for Prince Charles, Princess Diana and the 72,000 fans who were in the audience for that night s sold out show. The DVD was sourced from Michael Jackson's personal VHS copy of the performance as shown on the JumboTrons during the concert. This footage was only recently unearthed and is the only known copy of the show to exist. The visuals have been restored and the audio quality enhanced so that fans can share in the excitement of that famous night.

Magic of Belle Isle 2012

Customer Reviews
MAGIC OF BELLE ISLE (Dir. Rob Reiner, 2012, 110 minutes) is a nice, quiet family film that is also a Morgan Freeman extravaganza (comparatively speaking). I just loved it, but it may not be to everyone's liking in this hyperkinetic, wire-fu-violence-driven cinema atmosphere.

Freeman plays grumpy, washed-up alcoholic Western writer Monte Wildhorn (great imagination with the character's name, but don't let that put you off). He decides to summer-sit a house at a location I understand is Greenwood Lake, NY - but is called Belle Island. This confused me in several ways: the title says "ISLE" but I'd swear on someone's bones that they call it "island". Then, they are clearly not on an island but at the seashore, with some weird rocklike island off the coast, also called Belle Isle (or Belle Island, take your pick).

Anyway, Wildhorn has long since abandoned writing and devotes himself to guzzling booze. That is, until a fine lady and her three young daughters enter his life and cheer him right up, the end. I have to say it is a miracle and a marvel to see Freeman giving such a performance with his sadly acquired handicaps - and elements of his wheelchair-bound character reflect that loudly here.

There is no swearing, no ugliness of situation and no awkward stupidity in the storyline. I see all that as major in this day and age. One bit of language is "Jesus H. Christ" which is so hilariously surprising I hit the ceiling laughing when I heard the lines. Fred Willard as a local eccentric certainly spices the thing nicely. Virginia Madsen hands in a worthy performance as the divorced mother of three girls, and the girls themselves are charming (with the exception of the unfortunate Madeline Carroll, who is always cast as a nasty little teen witch and incidentally is some sort of cousin of my wife's).

Saying which, my wife caught a gander at some of this film and sourly asked me what was so special about it. Well, I have reviewed it, it has a happy ending in spite of the wacky characters, and is fully a Morgan Freeman movie. If that doesn't tell you what is special about it, then you are a lost cause indeed.

Perhaps in that instance you'd prefer a zombie-killing video game instead.

Morgan Freeman plays Monte Wildhorn, a famous Western novelist whose passion for writing hits an impasse. He takes a lakeside cabin for the summer in picturesque Belle Isle, befriending the family next door an attractive single mom (Virginia Madsen) and her young daughters who help him find inspiration again.

Lorax 2012

Customer Reviews
The environmentally conscious Lorax appears here in an expanded version of the Dr. Seuss book, where we see more about how the profit-minded Once-Ler destroyed the truffula trees. My kindergartener loved the book, and I happened across this tape at Wal-Mart in a bargain bin. Having seen it as a kid myself, it was a natural purchase. She's watched it eight times in three days, so it must have stood the test of time! The music is a bit dated, sure, but she won't care about that for a few years yet, and it's pure nostalgia for my wife and me. The story even strikes the correct balance between commercial interests and environmentalism: Just take care of nature while you're creating jobs, and all will be well. But if you don't.....yikes.

The forgotten story included here is about Pontoffel Pock, a loser of a young man who can't get his simple two-step job right and gets fired. He is given a magic piano so he can "get away from it all," and of course he fouls that up too, but eventually figures out how to rescue a damsel in distress. My little girl doesn't quite get the romance aspect of this story, but we both enjoy the fantasy. Not in the league of "The Lorax," but cute.

This adaptation of the Dr. Seuss book about pollution and environmental damage may be a bit heavy for younger kids. But children age six and older, as well as adults, will find much to ponder in its story of capitalist greed gone amok. The Lorax is a creature that once lived in a beautiful paradise, populated by animals and trees. When Mr. Once-Ler comes along and starts cutting down trees to make the profitable (but useless) Thneeds , the Lorax voices concern, saying, "I speak for the trees! Let 'em grow! They say I'm old fashioned and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast." Mr. Once-Ler ignores the Lorax's warnings, and lives to regret it. Eventually, paradise has become a barren wasteland. All the trees are cut down; the factory has closed; the animals, birds, and fish have fled; and the air is polluted. Even the Lorax is gone. The fate of the Lorax is put in the hands of a young child at the end, when the chastened Once-Ler gives him the last tree seed, with the admonition: "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing will change." The themes of capitalism, depletion of resources, and selfish affluence may be a bit heavy for kids under five, but with some parental guidance this makes for an educational and moving tale that can spark family discussions about the importance of respecting the wealth we all inherit from the natural world. --Elisabeth Keating

Katy Perry The Movie Part of Me 2012

Customer Reviews
"Katy Perry Part of Me" is a rare and unique glimpse into the life, childhood, upbringing, ups and down and tag along journey for the concert tour of a lifetime for Katy Perry. In the capable hands of producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, this isn't just your ordinary run-of-the-mill documentary/concert video, this is a story and a behind the scenes insight like I've never seen before.

A few things grabbed me as the movie starts with the preparation of her monster first world tour. They start with the setup for her first concert and her associating with her crew, dancers and staff before going into the opening number. She treats the people around her like gold. The people she hires to do her costumes, makeup, manage her schedule and organize her life aren't industry people. They are her friends. They were ordinary, run-of-the-mill people who Katy worked with when she was a nobody and she kept them. She loves them, and they love her and that is the nuts and bolts of "Part of Me".

Katy Perry may consider herself the `Pied Piper of Weirdness', but I would consider her the `Pied Piper of Genuineness'. It is the heart of her success, because it is exactly what took her, after years of struggle, out from under record labels that told her who she "should" be. Millions of fans, literally overnight, took to her personality of being exactly who she is and fell in love with her. She is the voice of this generation. I don't doubt that. We live in a time where traditions and expectations are blending with freedom of expression and freedom of genuineness. Katy Perry quite simply stands for being proud of who you are and being loud and proud about it. This very thing has made her a mega star.

In the Summer of 2011, Katy Perry did what only one artist had ever done before. She had 5 number one hits from one album. Only Michael Jackson had ever done that before. She did this by not being Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson or who ever else she was told to be like, she did this by being herself and with "Part of Me" you find out, that herself is something good and decent. Until her late teens, she was raised in a strict religious household. Even though she broke from that mold and had to pursue a path apart from her parents, she still finishes her shows looking to the sky and saying, "Thank you God."

Sure, some of what she brings to the stage is like Willy Wonka meets Wizard of Oz but the essence of genuineness that she embodies is no different back stage, with fans or on stage. She is always exactly who she says she is. Although as the toll of the tour begins to mount with personal heartbreaks, we see how she has established a persona with her fans and despite hardships, they come to expect it and she must deliver.

"Katy Perry Part of Me" is not just a concert/behind the scenes video. It goes into the heart of an extremely genuine overnight sensation that is tackling life, just like all of us. The best movies are the ones you walk out of still thinking about, wanting to talk about and maybe even discovering a life lesson or two. "Part of Me" is one of those movies. You come out of that movie feeling a genuine kinship with a celebrity who can never be described as `typical'. There was a joy in her eyes and smile throughout most of the movie, but toward the end some of that was gone and you want to console her like a friend. That's just the way she makes you feel, like everybody else she comes in contact with.

More of a music documentary than a concert video, Katy Perry: Part of Me chronicles Perry's year-long California Dreams World Tour in 2011 with an abundance of personal interviews, film of Perry interacting with her fans, and concert footage from California and around the globe. Absolutely bursting with energy, Perry's a fascinating singer, songwriter, and performer who's faced a fair amount of adversity in her career, and whose upbringing was very different than that of most pop stars. This film plays at times almost like a video diary. Perry philosophizes about everything from growing up in a strictly Pentecostal Christian family to her fairy-tale outlook on life, costuming choices, how her own experiences and emotions influence her lyrics and music, her drive to remain true to herself, and the difficulty of sustaining a long-distance marriage with actor Russell Brand. There's also plenty of footage with Perry's costumers, makeup artists, various assistants, and friends, including actress Shannon Woodward. But some of the most interesting interviews are those with her sister Angela Hudson, who travels with show, and her mother and father regarding their commitment to accepting and supporting Perry and her career despite potential conflicts with their religious views. One discussion that's oddly omitted is any hint of why Perry changed her name. While the personal and backstage footage is heartfelt and quite intriguing, the film seemed somewhat lacking in actual concert footage, though viewers are treated to at least parts of "Firework," "California Gurls," "Part of Me," "Last Friday Night," and "Peacock." --Tami Horiuchi
